Two singing flame pipes fai clic per ingrandire la foto

Singing flames illustrate the phenomenon of resonance in open pipes and devices for producing them, known as singing flame pipes, are composed of a vertical glass pipe, open at both ends, inside of which is a very small Bunsen burner.
In the two devices we present, the glass pipe is 31.5 cm long and has an internal diameter of 14 mm.
The burner consists of a small brass tube with an internal diameter of 4 mm: the hole from which the gas comes out is a few tenths of a millimeter.
The glass pipe and burner are attached to the steel staff, 35 cm in length, of a support with a metal tripod with wooden feet, by means of bands of brass strips which can slide along the pipe independently one from the other, thus making it possible to extract the burner from the pipe to light the flame and then to regulate the position of the flame inside the pipe.
One of the two pipes is chipped and cracked.
