Thus, at any given time while the machine is working as a dynamo, the induced f.e.m.'s have the same direction in all the coils, connected in series, that are on the same side with respect to the inversion plane and the opposite direction in those on the other side. They have different values from one coil to another, but in diametrally opposed coils they have the same value but with opposite sign.

The resulting f.e.m.'s of the two groups, each composed of eight coils in series, are connected in parallel between the two rotors.

In a vacuum the f.e.m. acting on the armature closed within itself is, instant by instant, null and no current goes through it; but when a load is connected to the machine’s terminals the load itself and the inductor, which are in series, are crossed by a direct current which is supplied, in equal parts, by the two series of f.e.m.'s. The pulleys attached to the end of the drive shaft are for the purpose of making the armature turn when the machine works as a dynamo and to activate other machines when it works as an electrical motor. When the machine is working as a dynamo, the external motor moment that starts the armature turning is, instant by instant, balanced by an antagonist moment caused by the interaction of current in the armature with the magnetic field and, to a small extent, with the passive resistors. ...continues
